About
I'm Yaakov Wahl, a Mental Health Counselor specializing in providing care for clients who have experienced trauma, grief and loss, which impact the ability to regulate emotions, connect fully with relationships of significance, and impact motivation and self-esteem.
First and foremost I create a safe, non-judgemental space where clients can slowly process and heal old wounds, and the impact of family of origin trauma that reaches its long arm of pain into present day functioning.
My approach starts from a psychodynamic attachment based lens, centered on self-understanding and I combine that with CBT practical skills building tools to build more adaptive coping mechanisms. Additionally, I draw on DBT skills to help increase the client’s awareness of their triggers and reactivity, replacing them as they heal with calmness, peace and stability.
I am deeply committed to creating a collaborative space where the client can lead by setting the goals and the pace for progress. I will strive to build a therapeutic alliance built on honesty, safety and collaboration. I encourage clients to bring all of themselves, including their background, history, and culture into the therapeutic space.
